Marvel fans worried they'd have to wait until July's Ant-Man and the Wasp for the next big Marvel event will be happy to know that Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will be returning before the pint-sized heroes get their big screen team-up. The first season of Netflix's Luke Cage was a mixed bag of really great stuff in the first half of the season and cartoonishly over-the-top nonsense in the second half. Basically the show went to shit as soon as they killed off Mahershala Ali's Cottonmouth.
But the second season looks to redeem all of that, I think. There's a new villain in town, at least, so the misguided Diamondback appears to be out of the mix, thankfully. Now we've got Bushmaster, a rather obscure villain that battled the Heroes for Hire as well as Captain America in two different iterations. It looks like they're leaning more toward the original incarnation of the character where he was a business man who gained superpowers thanks to his body being turned into "Unliving Metal."
It's weird stuff, but how else do you combat an otherwise invulnerable and bulletproof hero? I have faith that this season will continue the series' strong season 1 finish and move past all of the weirdly operatic stuff from the middle portion of the season. We'll find out for sure when Luke Cage season 2 premieres in its entirety on June 22.
