Men, if you felt a little less manly Thursday night or over the weekend there is a reason for that. It has nothing to do with low testosterone levels or crying during romantic movies with your wife/girlfriend (this time).
No, it is because we lost a man to the great racetrack in the sky. He wasn't just any man though. He was the man that gave us something that we all secretly covet and would do anything to enjoy. I'm talking about some of the fastest and most awe inspiring cars that the world will ever know.
Carroll Shelby passed away last Thursday at the age of 89. In his wake he leaves a legion of men (and probably women) who will always be thankful for some of the automobiles that he created like the Shelby Cobra, the Mustang-based Shelby GT350, and the Shelby GT500 just to name a few.
For his work in car design he was inducted into the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America the following year.
"My name is Carroll Shelby and performance is my business," Shelby said in an early commercial for the Cobra.
We thank you for saying that and meaning it Mr. Shelby. May you rest in peace.
