This month we lost the great David Bowie, one of the greatest musical talents of the last fifty years. If you disagree, you are just wrong BTW. While his music was justly praised in the days following his death, I also enjoyed his acting. He was the best Andy Warhol ever in the movie Basquiat and I enjoyed him as Pontius Pilate in Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ. You almost forgive him for the deicide thing. But no role is more beloved by people of my generation than the Jim Henson/George Lucas classic Labyrinth. No one who saw Bowie as Jareth, The Goblin King will ever forget his performance or his package in those tights. But, since Hollywood sucks a lot, they are doing a reboot of Labyrinth which will, naturally, not involve Bowie. It is unclear if they are going to remake the film or if it is a prequel or sequel. Either way, it is an effing sacrilege and should not be allowed to happen.
I don't know that I would think it was a good idea even if Bowie were still alive to play the part simply because sequels many years after an original film are rarely any good. But the thought of any one else playing The Goblin King fills me with rage. Who could replace Bowie? Justin Bieber? Nick Jonas? Give me a friggin' break.
