For some reason, they showed the trailer for the upcoming comedy Blockers in front of The Disaster Artist, and I didn't understand it any better on my second viewing of it just now. It's got a grab bag of a cast with Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and John Cena playing friends who bonded on their daughters' first day of school and are now teaming up to prevent them from losing their virginity on prom night.
Did you see The House with Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell? This basically seems like the exact same movie over again. I just get an identical vibe to that film. It also seems we've apparently all decided now that John Cena is just Bigger Channing Tatum and can now play any roles for which you were considering the formerly alone-in-his-physical-type Tatum. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy John Cena in most movies I see him in, but he's not quite the comedy virtuoso that his fellow wrestling alums Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista are by damn sight.
As for the rest of the trailer, it just seems like a random dart throw of plot contrivances tied loosely together by some bromide about learning to let go. At least have the stones to actually call the movie Cock Blockers, as Blockers just looks stupid in print by itself. It hits theaters on 4/6, two weeks before anyone can enjoy it the way it was meant to be seen. Fingers crossed it's still in theaters on 4/20.
