I remember in the anticipation for the release of The Phantom Menace I went regularly to check what was happening on the Star Wars main page, then in its infancy. About a week before the movie came out they posted an audio clip so that we could all hear what a new character named Jar Jar Binks sounded like. When I heard Ahmed Best's obnoxious Gungan patois through my computer speakers, it was the first sign that something was terribly, terribly wrong. Talk about a tremor in the Force. On a Star Wars fan YouTube page called "These Are The Actors You're Looking For" they recently asked Best if he would return to reprise the role of the most hated character in film history in the new Star Wars films. He said,
"I think I've done my damage. I'm good with where I stand in the Star Wars universe. I'd say no. I think I did what I did, I thought it was great, it was fun, but now it's time to move on."
Umm, Ahmed? I hate to break it to you but we HAVE moved on. No one, I repeat, NO ONE wants Jar Jar to return. The Force Awakens was not a perfect film but it was Citizen Friggin' Kane compared to The Phantom Menace. It must be hard for Best to know that he will forever be remembered for playing an intergalactic racial stereotype space rabbit frog. Maybe he's a really nice guy, I don't know. What I do know is that my sincere hope is that by the time the original Star Wars trilogy happened, Jar Jar had been lightsabered through the eye by Darth Vader for old times sake.
