Normally when we want to hear a director's thoughts on a film, we have to wait until they release their director's commentary on the Blu-ray. IMDB thought that was too long for us to wait to get James Wan's comments on his upcoming flick Aquaman, however, so they roped the director into providing one for the film's just released first trailer.
Since it's months before the film's release, Wan doesn't want to give away too much, so he mostly resorts to Arnold Schwarzenegger-esque describing exactly what we're looking at. He does confirm that Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry and Amber Heard's Mera are more or less two halves of a whole, and their mission takes them across the world to avoid a coming war on the surface launched by the villainous King Orm (Patrick Wilson).
If nothing else, it's great to hear Wan's Australian accent as he gives us a play by play of the trailer. I mean, I guess it's not much of a novelty for our Australian readers, but it's an absolute blast for the rest of us that don't get to hear the accent every day. I think I'm not alone in hoping this film lives up to its potential, and with Wan at the helm, I have no doubt it will—at the very least—be a competently made comic book adventure.
James Wan's Aquaman hits theaters on December 21.
