In the tradition of several films adapted to Broadway musicals, super spy James Bond is coming to the Great White Way...in song. The show will be written by Dave Clarke with music and lyrics by Jay Henry Weisz. It will feature several different Bond villains and a new Bond girl. I'm not entirely sure why this is happening at all. Is there a big call for this? I mean, this isn't The Lion King that was a musical movie before it was a theatrical show. We are talking about an action adventure series in which Bond usually shoots his way through dozens of henchmen in a hollowed out volcano or whatever. How are you going to do when you have to lower Bond into a shark tank? How do you do that on stage? I was a theater major in college and I don't see it.
What this reminds me of is the biggest flop in Broadway history. It was a musical adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie. Who that the story of a telekinetic girl who has a really bad prom night would make a good play is beyond me. It was also beyond most theatergoers. I give the Bond musical three months tops.
