John Carter has received a mixed response from critics around the world, to put it nicely. And now to add insult to injury Disney has today announced that the film is expected to lose close to $200 million, making it one of the biggest cinematic catastrophes in history. But Disney lovers out there needn't fret, the company is still expected to make a pretty impressive quarterly profit because of the TV shows that it possesses.

With John Carter's production costs coming to a staggering $250m plus the additional $100m that has been spent on marketing, the box office response to the film has lead the company to predict that it will bring back hardly any of this expenditure in revenue.

Of course it is a shame to hear that director Andrew Stanton's first foray into live action films after his success with Pixar making such classics as Finding Nemo and Wall-E will be unsuccessful. However Disney still have a long summer of movies to help the company reclaim some of its lost millions with The Avengers and Brave due to be released over the coming months.

Walt would be spinning in his grave, if he wasn't frozen stiff.
