TV & FILM

Right around the time Pixar began to lose their mojo a bit, Disney Animation Studios took a substantial leap in quality thanks in no small part to films like Wreck-It Ralph. Six years after that video game odyssey took the world by storm, we return to Litwack's Family Fun Center & Arcade for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.
John C. Reilly is back as the titular villain of Fix-It Felix Jr., who travels with his friend Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) into the magical world of the internet. Last time around, they just jumped between arcade games within Litwack's, but now that the arcade has upgraded to 21st century technology, they are free to go anywhere you can imagine.
I hate to be cynical about this, particularly considering how much I love the original film, but this has shades of The Emoji Movie happening with all the product placement inside the internet. I get it, that product placement pays the bills, but for this world to expand from completely original arcade game properties to corporate shills for Amazon and Snapchat is a bit disheartening. At least they did invent some of the internet stuff, like BuzzzTube, so credit where credit is due.
Nevertheless, I'll be there for this one when it opens on November 21.
