Joe Carnahan is no stranger to bombastic, balls-to-the-walls action pics, so when he was chosen to direct the reboot of the blind superhero Daredevil, it seemed like he was clearly a good choice to fix the mistakes of that atrocity Ben Affleck found himself mired in. But then Marvel/Fox found themselves stuck in a legal snafu in which they had to trade off certain properties by certain dates to retain them and Daredevil got caught in the middle, ultimately losing the battle for reboot.
In response, Smokin' Aces director Carnahan released the sizzle reel he put together to sell the studio on his vision, which is a concoction of 70s blaxploitation, Taxi Driver vigilantism and Walter Hill-esque street gangs. It certainly would've been an interesting take and one of the more original visions of a comic book movie that we've had in years.
