Right now you are probably saying something like, "Surely you can't be serious." But I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has hired Shane Black to oversee a reboot the Predator franchise. And no, I don't mean another one of those spinoffs Fox has tried to pass as sequels over the years, despite the glaring lack of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I mean a total re-imagining of the original film.
Now, Shane Black does have some serious pedigree. Considered a bit of a screenwriting prodigy back in the day, he wrote the buddy cop classic Lethal Weapon, and more recently he wrote and directed the highly acclaimed Iron Man 3. Now he's officially tasked with writing a treatment of the new Predator, and it's presumed he will eventually direct as well. So it's not like the reboot is going to totally suck.
Still, having a good director on board does not change the fact that the original is a cinematic masterpiece in no need of a reboot. I mean, how on earth can anyone ever assemble a better cast than the Terminator, Apollo Creed, and Jessie "The Body" Ventura?
That being said, yes, of course I'll go see it when it comes out, whenever that is. I'm not a communist.
