Increasingly, especially in the East, robots are being made to look more and more human. This week a report came out of a dude in Hong Kong that made a Scarlett Johannson look-a-like robot. It is the very bottom of the uncanny valley. I personally could never do it with a robot or a Real Doll because I'd be afraid given my luck that the singularity happens while I'm in them and they kill me. But other people have no problem with it. An experiment at Stanford University found that when people were told to touch robots in their no no spots, the people became aroused almost the same as if they were touching human junk. Researcher Jamy Li says,
“It shows that people respond to robots in a primitive, social way. Social conventions regarding touching someone else’s private parts apply to a robot’s body parts as well. This research has implications for both robot design and theory of artificial systems.”
It just goes to show you that people are friggin' weird in every country. It doesn't really surprise me that Stanford students would get turned on my robo genitals. Being that close to Silicon Valley has got to mess with your head.
