I suppose I'm part of the problem. Even though I had a sneaking suspicion that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was going to be a POS, I went to see it any way. I was right, of course. It was a humorless, bleak, boring, slog that didn't make much sense. But by then, the damage had been done. The studio and Zack Snyder had my money. Domestically the movie brought in $170.1 million dollars and internationally it raked in $424.1 million, proving that the foreign film markets will literally watch any turd Hollywood produces. How do you explain it? I think two things are in play here. One is that it was hyped so much that people were pumped to see it. Other people were enticed by the terrible reviews to see how bad it was. I'm sure they weren't disappointed. Domestically, after all the looky loos have seen it, the box office may drop significantly, but I see this poop burger baking near or over a billion internationally.
It just goes to show you that people don't care about quality anymore. Give them plenty of explosions and some sexy movie stars and they are DTF. Superhero movies are the only films that are profitable these days, but it is possible to also make them good movies.
