There has been a lot of hoopla over the last few months about the new Ghostbusters movie that opens tomorrow. Many people, mostly dudes in their thirties, complained that an all female Ghostbusters was going to ruin the franchise. That's a bunch of sexist BS. I just think there was no need for a sequel at all. But these people tend to forget that the franchise was already tarnished thirty years ago almost by Ghostbusters II. I love that movie because of nostalgia but it isn't good. The Ghostbusters fighting against a ghost in a painting? Pink emotional slime? Peter McNichol? Give me a break. Even the soundtrack couldn't compare to the original. Bobbi Brown? Really?
So, the folks at Honest Trailers decided to remind us all that before we start hating on a new movie we haven't seen yet we should remember how crappy part 2 was. Maybe the answer is that Ghostbusters never needed a sequel at all. Perhaps it was so perfect that anything after would pale in comparison.
