So as it turns out, Jimmy Kimmel kind of sucks at hosting the Emmys. OK, maybe that's being a tad harsh, but he was just extremely mediocre. There were some pretty humerous skits like Tracy Morgan falling over and Lena Dunham eating cake on a toilet (don't judge, we've all done it).
But his monologue was pretty stale and predictable and as soon as the punchline to his first joke at the expense of Cat Deeley had left his lips, you could kind of predict it wasn't going to be as scandalous as you'd hope. Even Ricky Gervais' appearance was rather mute.
As Hollywood's elite pat each other on the back let's remember that these award ceremonies are meant to take aim at the extremely rich and beautiful people on TV. Here are the best bits from the ceremonies history that have done exactly that.
Jimmy Fallon's Opening, 2010
Conan O'Brien's Intro, 2006
Stephen Colbert & Jon Stewart Presenting, 2006
Ricky Gervais Asks Steve Carell For His Emmy Back, 2008
