The common perception in the comic book movie game is that Marvel makes the fun movies and DC makes the depressing and violent movies. So what would it look like if Marvel's most fun movie in their entire cinematic universe—2014's Guardians of the Galaxy—had been made by DC instead? Well, it looks pretty dour, dark, and the kind of thing people would never take their children to see.
To be fair, DC is a bit of a punching bag in the industry because they've been playing catch-up for the last few years as Marvel has dominated the comic book movie landscape. Their upcoming Wonder Woman and Justice League movies look substantially more lighthearted and—dare I say it—fun than Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman, and Suicide Squad.
After watching this awesome fan video, I think we're all glad that Marvel made Guardians of the Galaxy and not DC. The tone of the characters and the world wouldn't fit DC's gritty aesthetic anyway, but this video just shows what a bullet we dodged. Fingers crossed for better things from DC going forward. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters next weekend, followed by Wonder Woman on June 2.
