Drew Goddard's 2012 genre exercise Cabin in the Woods remains one of the best horror films of the new millennium, thanks to its fresh take on well worn tropes. His next directorial effort—after landing an Oscar nomination for his screenplay adaptation of The Martian—is Bad Times at the El Royale, a return to the world of genre filmmaking.
In case you're not familiar, the flick has a killer cast—including Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Dakota Johnson, and more—as well as a pretty awesome sounding logline...
“Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell.”
The above video gives a little more detail about things than you may want before seeing the movie. I went into Cabin in the Woods totally cold and it sincerely lifted my opinion of it. But sometimes, I guess, it's fun to be in on the secret from the get-go. Totally up to you, but watch at your own discretion.
You can check in to the El Royale starting October 12.
