When I was a kid growing up in the 80's I was really into wrestling. This was the glory days when Hulk Hogan wasn't just the subject of scandal and Andre the Giant was still with us. I religiously watched what was then called WWF and even loved the Saturday Morning Cartoon. I was also really into G.L.O.W, The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It only ran for a few years but it showed that women could kick ass too. But it was ridiculous. The hair was huge, the costumes were insane, and the plots were absurd. But that's what made it so fun. Now Netflix is bringing back the glory days of G.L.O.W. in a comedy series based on the show. The description reads,
"G.L.O.W. was inspired by the real story of the 1980’s female wrestling league. Set in Los Angeles and showcasing big hair and body slams, the series tells the fictionalized story of an out of work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers."
It comes from the makers of Orange is the New Black so, you know, no slouches. This is either going to be horrible or the most awesome show ever. Several of the original G.L.O.W. ladies will be back. Get ready, y'all.
