Did you find yourself watching the 2004 Roland Emmerich movie The Day After Tomorrow and thinking to yourself, "man, this is far too cerebral for me. Can't they dumb it down a bit?" Well, have I got a movie for you! Geostorm is the directorial debut of Emmerich's longtime producing partner Dean Devlin, so if you can imagine a world in which Roland Emmerich movies are even stupider and less competently made, you've got a vague conception of where this is headed.
If you're still not convinced this has the potential to be the dumbest movie ever made, the plot of the film involves weather satellites going on the fritz and attacking the earth. Still not convinced? Well, it stars Gerard Butler, and if that isn't enough to make you see just how stupid this movie must be, I'm afraid you're beyond convincing at this point.
I think it's safe to say that we all love a good dumb action movie, and best case scenario for Geostorm is that it's self aware enough not to take itself too seriously. If nothing else, it'll be a big dumb popcorn movie coming out in the middle of Oscar season, and that can't be taken for granted in this day and age. Geostorm hits theaters on October 20.
