Mindless zombies have been watching basic cable for decades. But thanks to the success of The Walking Dead, zombies can now be found on basic cable, as well. And their numbers are growing.
Last month it was announced that AMC is working on a Walking Dead spin-off, and now A&E is jumping on the undead bandwagon. The network is adapting a French series called The Returned, which is adapted from the French film Les Revenants. While the show does involve the dead rising from their graves, it is unlike most zombie stories in the sense that the reanimated corpses don't go around trying to eat the living. Rather, the undead in this show are unaware of their previously deceased status, and simply try to return to their normal lives...with mixed results.
This is not the first A&E series that was adapted from a French film. The reality hit Duck Dynasty is actually based on the 1929 surrealist film Un Chien Andalou by Spanish director Luis Buñuel and artist Salvador Dalí. Click here for a clip.
