In my humble opinion The Exorcist is still the greatest horror film of all time. Maybe it was my strict Catholic upbringing, but that movie still terrifies me. I read the book too and it is even worse. The tale of a little girl in Georgetown that gets possessed by a demon named Pazuzu has been thrilling audiences for decades. And yet, the sequels were mostly all disappointing. Exorcist III was pretty good but Part 2 and the Exorcist prequels were God awful...literally. Now,Variety is reporting that Fox is producing a series based on the story as a TV show. It's supposed to be a "modern reimagining" of the original tale about "two very different men tackling one family's case of horrifying demonic possession." I'm not entirely sure what a "modern reimagining means". Maybe the younger priest is a millennial who tries to expel the demon with artisanal organic holy water and live tweets the exorcism while the older priest talks about how awesome the 60's were. I'm not sure.
What I do know is that I'm pretty nervous about this. Maybe it will be good, but it could just as easily be horrible. It depends on how Fox produces it. If they try and make it like The Vampire Diaries or whatever it will crash and burn. Or maybe not. Perhaps demons are the new vampire.
