At long last we have our first look at the newest Star Trek series, the twice delayed Star Trek: Discovery. Entertainment Weekly has released this first official image from the show and it shows Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin-Green in character as Captain Philippa Georgiou and First Officer Michael Burnham, respectively.
Though there's very little to be seen in this image, we can glean several things. First of all, Martin-Green appears to have a holstered tricorder in the pouch touching her left thigh, and both she and Yeoh are carrying communicators on the right side of their belts. Both of these pieces of equipment look to be right in line with the style established in the original Trek series from 1966, which makes sense as this series is set between the original series and the most recent Trek series, Enterprise, so the technology should have advanced somewhat, but not extensively.
The series is set to debut in the Fall on CBS's streaming platform CBS All Access, but there's been no word on an official date or whether the series will be available anywhere else. Fingers crossed that we can see the show without subscribing to another streaming service, but if that's the way it has to be, I'm not missing a minute of this one.
