Finally, We Know What Yoshi’s Real Name Is

Something kids today miss out on if they download their video games is the wonderful old game books. It used to be where every game came with a little booklet that would give you background info on the characters as well as tell you how to play the game. Writer Blake Harris, who wrote the book Console Wars, has been collecting little tidbits from old Nintendo game books and posting them on Twitter. Did you know that the reason Bowser invades Princess Peach's kingdom is because he hates "happy fungi"? Or that Mario isn't even a human. His species is listed as Homo Nintendus. All these years I just thought he was a gross caricature of Italians. But probably the biggest news is what Yoshi the dinosaur's real name is.

Yoshi's full name is T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas. What the T. stands for is unclear. Maybe it doesn't mean anything like the F. in F. Scott Fitzgerald. I always love Yoshi. What's not to love? He's a dinosaur you can ride and spit death from the bowels of hell on all Koopas and Shy Guys.
