Finally, Somebody Is Making a Sequel to ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

In an absolutely ridiculous bit of news that is, by some strange coincidence, is being reported by Varietyjust a few weeks before Thanksgiving and the official kickoff to the holiday shopping season, it seems that, yes, somebody is actually making a sequel to It's a Wonderful Life.

The beloved Frank Capra classic was made in 1946, and Jimmy Stewart died in 1997, so obviously it won't be about his character, the loveable George Bailey. Instead, the new film will be about Bailey's grandson. But there's a twist! Instead of an angel showing the grandson of George Bailey how great he is, and how terrible life would be if he had never been born, it'll be the opposite. The angel will show Baily's dirtbag grandson just how much better everyone's life would have been if he hadn't been born.

Ya see what they did there? Clever, right?

Anyway, the angel for the sequel will actually be played by Karolyn Grimes, who, as a little girl, played George Bailey's daughter in the original picture. (You know, the one who said the famous line about the bells and the angel wings.)

The producers of Wonderful Life 2 are Allen J. Schwalb of Star Partners and Bob Farnsworth of Hummingbird, and apparently they've got a budget of about $30 million or so. So don't go expecting some fancy movie star to play the grandson. And, frankly, don't expect this film to actually hit theaters.

Yes, they want it to by Christmas 2015. But this sounds like it'll be a Hallmark Hall of Fame production by the time it's all said and done.
