Imagine the most British action movie of all time? Does it involve fancy lads floating around in a hot air balloon? You're on the right track! The new Amazon Original film The Aeronauts chronicles the world's first weather balloon, and how it was used to better predict and forecast the weather. Sounds like a rip-roaring good time, doesn't it?
The film reunites The Theory of Everything co-stars Felicity Jones and Eddie "Fancy Lad" Redmayne for a high flying adventure set on board a hot air balloon. It may not sound like much, and it isn't, but they've managed to make weather forecasting look exciting. I'll give the filmmakers this, there haven't been many movies set aboard a hot air balloon, so at least they've got that going for them.
Originally The Aeronauts was going to get a week-long run in IMAX the first week of December, but Amazon changed their mind at the last minute. It's still going to get a theatrical release on December 6 before finding its permanent home on Amazon two weeks later on December 20. Probably best to go to streaming the same day Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters and sucks all the air out of the movies business.
