Badass bounty hunter in the vein of Boba Fett? Check. Carl Weathers and IG-88? Check. Werner Herzog as some sort of eccentric criminal providing quasi-narration? Double check. The Mandalorian has the potential to be the best live action Star Wars property of the Disney-Star Wars era, which is all the more reason for people to sign up for Disney's new streaming service Disney+, as that'll be the only way to see it.
The show is the brain child of Jon Favreau, who wrote all of the first season's scripts and served as its showrunner. Favreau has been in a groove since directing Iron Man back in 2008, and with the exception of Cowboys and Aliens, has been fairly consistent at delivering blockbusters, most recently last month's Lion King, which is now the highest grossing animated film of all time. Personally, I'm hoping Favreau delivers a TV show closer to his first film, Made, with lots of foul mouthed scumbums arguing about who may or may not have sold Peter Falk's carpet cleaning van.
The show is also rumored to feature Nick Nolte as an Ugnaught, which was the tipping point for me in needing to get Disney+ and see this series. This first trailer more than sells the premise and I'm eager to see what they've got in store for us when The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ in November.
