Earlier this week we told you about the rumor floating around out there that Emperor Palpatine will be returning in some capacity for Star Wars: Episode VII. Now there is word that another dead but beloved character might be coming back, too: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
How will Obi-Wan return? Well, there are really only two possibilities: in a flashback, or as a Jedi ghost, just like he did Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Of course, since in real life people can't just come back from the dead whenever filmmakers want, for Episode VII the role of Obi-Wan will once again go to Ewan McGregor rather than the late great Sir Alec Guinness.
So is this a good idea? Hell yes it is. Can you imagine what Ghost Obi-Wan is going to do to Ghost Emperor Palpatine when he sees him? I smell a ghost fight!
Moreover, according to the original story from Latino Review, McGregor isn't just keen to appear in Episode VII. He's also pushing hard for a standalone Obi-Wan spinoff—an idea in which Disney has already expressed interest. And I think at this point it's pretty obvious where they should go with said spinoff. It should a story about all the Star Wars ghosts battling it out in the afterlife. I'm talking Palpatine, Darth Maul, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker, all those little kids Anakin slaughtered in Revenge of the Sith (which, let's face it, would be super awkward), and, obviously, Mace Motherf*cking Windu.
They could call it Star Wars: the Force Never Dies, and it would be awesome.
