The way I got into filmmaking when I was a kid was my friends and I getting together and making our own versions of famous movies. When I was 12 I made a version of The Godfather that is wonderfully terrible with my friend Greg. It was bad, of course, but it was still better than Godfather III. Later on, I went to film school and had access to budgets and decent equipment and now the quality is much better. But there are places in this world where people don't have the privilege I had to learn the craft of filmmaking and all that crap. Take, Uganda for example. The cinema there is truly DIY. They do it for sheer love of filmmaking. With this guerrilla style in mind a group of dudes produced their own version of The Expendables called Operation Kakongoliro: The Ugandan Expendables.
This video is just the trailer but it tells you everything you need to know. Unlike the American Expendables which stars a variety of action stars, this stars a bunch of guys from a village. Oh, and some amazing homemade special effects. I really hope they can finish this because I want to see it.Â
