While out promoting the Blu-ray release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, star Karen Allen told reporters that she'd been speaking with Steven Spielberg recently and that he'd said everyone's on board to make a fifth movie, but the ball is in George Lucas's court on finishing a script he likes.
Now, while it's hard to believe that George Lucas has a court or a ball by the size of all eight chins sucked back above the collar of his plaid flannel shirts, this is either really good or really bad news. One one hand, it would be terrific if the series didn't go out on Crystal Skull and the team found some way to rectify their past blunder. On the other hand, it's possibly Lucas would just screw things up even worse (if that were possible) and burn his most famous character to the ground with something more ridiculous than inter-dimensional aliens in South America.
Are there any decent franchises that have survived five movies? It's easy when you can recast the lead (a la James Bond), but few film series have lived to movie #5 and lived to tell the tale.
So check the gallery for five of the worst #5's ever.
