I often find myself thinking back to the 90's. In a time where the video game industry is growing and evolving faster than ever, sometimes it's just good to think back to a time where everything was much less…complex. Regardless, the times are changin' and that means that we need consoles that can supply the demand.

Sony's managed to do a pretty good job throughout the life of their ‘Playstation' consoles, constantly providing all the latest and greatest with every new generation of gaming console. Microsoft also came along halfway through and introduced the ‘Xbox', which took the video game industry by storm and still manages to hold its own in the ‘Big Three' ever-waging console war; the third piece of that trinity being Nintendo.

Nintendo has long been struggling to keep up with its competitors, which is why everyone was surprised when they jumped ahead of the game and announced the Wii U earlier this year. Everyone's been spending the past six month eagerly awaiting any possible news on the next generation of gaming consoles. Rumors of a Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 have been swirling for some time and the Wii U was expected to be the first of these new, innovative consoles. The hype for the Wii U has been high and pre-orders for the soon-to-be available console have been soaring high without any new competition from Sony or Microsoft but the console is not all what it seems.

Details from the Wii U have emerged and, whilethe graphics seem to now be on par with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, it lacks any sort of new innovation or advancements to put it in the category of a ‘next gen' system. Yes, it has a tablet controller that's never been seen before but, as with Nintendo's previous projects, it's merely a quick gimmick to sell their product and will where off in time. The Wii was a huge seller when it first hit store shelves but has sat mostly unused by a majority of the gaming community since then. The Wii U has been confirmed to ship with only one controller, making multiplayer impossible unless you fork up the $150+ required for a new one. Quick Tip: Don't break your controller.

There are too many reasons to count why the Wii U will fail. Everything from lack of any real online support to a huge lack of internal memory are just scratching the surface. Overall, regardless of what anyone seems to think, the Wii U is not what it seems and as much as I'd love for Nintendo to make a huge comeback, it's simply not happening…not with the Wii U at least.
