Based on the 2002 novel by Richard K. Morgan, the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Altered Carbon is going to take us 250 years into the future, and this new featurette gives us a taste of the things to come! Suicide Squad's Joel Kinnaman steps into the lead role as a "sleeve" or synthetic version of a private investigator named Takeshi Kovacs (Will Yun Lee). Kovacs is hired to look into a murder in a cyberpunk future where the ultra-wealthy can live forever.

This behind the scenes video helps to set up the world in which the series takes place, and it's got a lot of complicated rules that are going to have to be sussed out for viewers almost immediately. If you haven't read the books, I think this is a good introduction to some of the concepts that are going to be explored.

Of course there's a lot of nods to Blade Runner here, but honestly, what sci-fi noir made in the last 35 years hasn't referenced that film? It'll be interesting to see how they bring this all to life, and we'll find out when the entire ten episode first season of Altered Carbon premieres on Netflix on February 2.
