Over the course of the two most recent Planet of the Apes adventures, Andy Serkis' Caesar has gone from adorable cgi-chimp to full blown leader of the now dominant species on planet earth. If you're not one for a series rewatch prior to this summer's release of the third film in the new series, War for the Planet of the Apes, this new TV spot will bring you up to speed on Caesar's journey.
Gone are the days when a carefree Caesar was building 3D Statue of Liberty puzzles in the attic and harassing his hapless neighbor, and the series has taken a more somber tone as humanity begins to dwindle. If there's anything this film series has taught us over the years, it's that the humans won't go down without a ton of bloodshed, so I would expect this to be the most violent Apes film to date.
While I would wholeheartedly recommend that you go back and watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes prior to seeing War, I also wouldn't blame you for approaching such a task with hesitancy. These films are two hour downers, but they're incredibly well made and well crafted and completely devoid of Chuck Heston's ass, which is more than I can say for the original. War for the Planet of the Apes begins on July 14.
