When you've been dubbed the 'Chosen One' you know you will not have to wait too long to get your chance to shine. For 19-year old Bryce Harper that chance came Saturday night when the surprising Washington Nationals took on the also surprising Los Angeles Dodgers.
Neither team was worth much more than the cost of the paper used to print their programs, but so far during this young season they are leading their divisions. The Nationals decided to call Harper up when Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the DL, and gave him a chance to live up to the hype with his first MLB start Saturday night.
In a nut shell--the kid looked good. His first big league hit came in the seventh when he crushed the ball for a double. It had the looks of a potential home run, but ended up landing where the outfield wall meets the ground; perhaps 10-15 feet from being a home run.
He did get his first RBI in the ninth, a tie-breaking sacrifice in the 9th, but Matt Kemp put a damper on the night by hitting a home run in the 1oth to give the Dodgers the win, 4-3.
(Want to see Bryce Harper's first MLB hit? Fans at home got a 'special' treat from a fan behind the dugout too!)
