When the man who plays Walter White says, 'I had one girlfriend I wanted to kill.' You listen.
In this instance, Breaking Bad-ass Bryan Cranston was not the one who knocks and he sure had a messed-up way of dealing with the one who did. Given the circumstances, we might be able to understand his response.
As he explained in his GQ cover story, it goes like this: He was dating some sort of nutty lunatic chick after the end of his short first marriage...much like we all might have done or did do. The girl was all hopped up on whatever and apparently completely unstable. He'd moved to New York to be in on the soap opera Loving (I'm sure you all remember that one, right?) and she followed him. Stalking him. Blowing up his answering machine with insane stuff like, 'I'm gonna kill you. I'm gonna cut your balls off. I'm gonna have your dick sawed off.' She came to his apartment one time. Then, Cranston described:
And I envisioned myself killing her. It was so clear. My apartment had a brick wall on one side, and I envisioned opening the door, grabbing her by the hair, dragging her inside, and shoving her head into that brick wall until brain matter was dripping down the sides of it. Then I shuddered and realized how clearly I saw that happening. And I called the police because I was so afraid. I was temporarily insane—capable of doing tremendous damage to her and to myself.
Ok, maybe we haven't all been there. Well, now we know where all that inner Walt comes from, and it's a pretty real and pretty dark place.
