In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, former Goonie Josh Brolin confirmed the rumors that he was approached about playing Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel 2.
Brolin was specifically asked whether he had "entered into conversations" with director Zack Snyder about the role, and he said he did before clarifying:
I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben.
Oh, and, um, speaking of Ben Affleck as Batman and the reaction to this casting all over the globe, it just so happened that Mr. Brolin had some thoughts about that, too:
I've never seen such a global reaction in my life. I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It's like, 'Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can.'
Brolin then concluded thusly:
I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.
And that's pretty cool. Rich white men have to stick up for each other. I mean, if they don't who will, amiright?
Still, I don't think any of this is going to make anyone feel any better. Knowing that we could have had Brolin but got Affleck instead is like hearing your mom was going to get you Nintendo for Christmas but she ended up getting you Atari. (Yes, that happened to me. Yes, I'm old.)
And that part where he said he wouldn't want to be Ben Affleck right now? I'm sure he meant well, but that was harsh.
