Is It Safe to Say that Brett Favre is Finally Done?

Boyz II Men made it hard to say goodbye to yesterday, but it has always been hard to say goodbye to our heroes. Even when we know it is time for them to walk away from the game we can't help but think how we'd like to see them throw one more touchdown pass or make one more fourth quarter comeback--incidentally, both things that Brett Favre was pretty darn good at.

Even though Favre did not play last year, it will not be shocking to hear rumors of him coming out of retirement this season. So what if he's 42? The man is still better than half the QBs in the league (probably...okay, maybe). Even though he fooled us twice before and could easily file papers to get reinstated to the league, I think it is safe to say that he's done this time. Why? The man has taken a job.

Brett Favre is going to be coaching high school football. The kids at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, are going to have the benefit of having one of the greatest players in the NFL on staff for this coming season.

Love him or hate him, Favre was never dull. The man could throw a football (just not always to the right team; something he did 336 times). He knows how to lead a team, get the most out of players, and has proven to be quite adept at getting players to believe they are never out of the game until the game is over. All pretty good qualities for  high school football players to learn, right?

There are bound to be some naysayers; folks that will not want him around because of the whole Jenn Sterger scandal that surfaced during his last season with the Vikings. All the dads envisioning their sons throwing like Brett Favre will quickly drown out whatever objections may be raised.

(Want to see one of Brett Favre's finer moments?)
