This just in: Google will be pulling the plug on YouTube! We all thought it was a video sharing site, but it's apparently just an uber-long competition to find the best video ever created. Last month, Google announced that they were phasing out Google Reader; it looks like that won't be the only service they're planning to shut down before the year ends.
Google has deployed over 30,000 technicians to evaluate the hundreds of millions of video entries. The winner will be chosen and announced at midnight, which will also mark YouTube's end--but don't worry, Google's already working on relaunching YouTube in the next decade or so. Hit the break for more details about the competition, as well as the prizes at stake.
Yeah, go check the calendar now, but that doesn't change a thing because you've been had! Google's up to their usual no-good pranks today, and announcing that YouTube was shutting down is an obvious prank. Clearly they wouldn't do that to their billion-views-strong baby.
Check out this round-up for more of Google's April Fools' Day pranks. Make sure to pass it forward!
