Believe it or not, 18 months from now the DC film Birds of Prey will be in theaters, despite the fact that there's no script and no cast—outside of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, herself no "bird of prey." As for HQ, she won't even be the villain of this flick. That honor falls to Black Mask, a Batman villain that fans have longed to see on the big screen, just maybe not under these particular circumstances.
I'm not saying it's a terrible idea to announce a release date before you have a finished script and cast in place, but... Oh wait, yes I am. It's a terrible idea and how we ended up with such god awful Suicide Squad and Justice League movie, because DC rushed a film to hit a release date without giving two shits about the quality of said film.
As far as the film itself goes, Black Canary and Huntress are confirmed to be part of the story, with DC apparently going hard after Lady Gaga for one of these roles. Cathy Yan is set to direct the film, and this will be her second feature after Dead Pigs, which premiered at Sundance this past January. Again, great idea DC, going after a director with any sort of big budget production under their belt. This project is just rotten with great ideas.
Birds of Prey hits theaters on February 7, 2020.
