Is Benicio Del Toro Your New Star Wars Villain?

Rumors coming from lots of different sources are reporting that Puerto Rican actor Benicio Del Toro has been offered the part of the main villain in Star Wars Episode VIII. We all know by now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is happening, whether we like it or not, in December. Episode VIII is scheduled to be released in 2017 or so. The film will not be directed by JJ Abrams but rather by Looper director Rian Johnson. There is no doubt that Benicio is a great actor. He was great in Traffic and Che but can he do sci-fi? 

It's not the first weird casting in the new Star Wars series. After all, casting Girls' star Adam Driver as the baddy in The Force Awakens is certainly a stretch. I'm not saying that he won't be good, maybe he will. All I'm saying is that he's most famous for playing Lena Dunham's weirdo boyfriend and that doesn't scream Star Wars villain to me. I will reserve my judgement until I see these performances by unlikely actors.
