Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger told reporters today there's no timetable for his return because he has a partially dislocated rib, and if he got hit, it could puncture his aorta. So rather than risk death, Big Ben is going to be out of action. Not that the decision was a hard one, clearly.
Roethlisberger's shoulder is injured as well, but this newly disclosed rib injury is more severe and apparently the last time his doctor had even heard of it happening was in 1998 to a rugby player. Big Ben was hit by two defenders simultaneously in Monday's win OT win over the Chiefs, and slammed to the ground.
According to NFL.com, Ben's pain is a 9 out of 10 and he's been able to only sleep four hours a night. Earlier this season, Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb had some of his ribs detached from his sternum in a hit. What the hell is going on this year?
