SUPEREGO
Michael Garcia - March 26, 2016
I kind of feel bad for Ben Affleck. He had early success winning an Oscar while still in his twenties for Good Will Hunting and then...big periods of crap. Remember Gigli? Daredevil? His career was almost finished until he started directing. Then he was a critical darling again with Argo and The Town. Things were looking up. Sure, him and Jennifer Garner broke up because he was poking the nanny, but life is never perfect. Then he landed the role of a lifetime, as Batman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. It's a plum role that many actors before him played. Now it was his turn. The only problem? Batman V. Superman sucks. Like, really bad. It's been universally panned by critics, including us, for being a humorless slog of bleakness. He's back to square one. I don't think this is a potential career killer like Gigli, but it ain't good.
In the above interview, he and Henry Cavill are asked to respond to the negative reviews. Just watch Affleck's face. Someone added Simon and Garfunkle's Sound of Silence to top it all off. Poor Ben.
