No, Terrell Suggs was not a part of the New Orleans Saints between the 2009 and 2011 seasons. The Ravens are losing him the old fashioned way (he's not getting arrested)—he's injured.
While training in or the upcoming season the defending Defensive Player of the Year tore his Achilles tendon, an injury that typically takes close to a year to recover from. However, ever the optimist, not to mention one really determined workout warrior, Suggs is swearing that he'll play at some point during the '12 season.
Suggs was the first round pick for the Ravens back in 2003 (No 10 pick). In nine seasons he has accumulated 565 tackles (412 solo and 153 assisted), 82.5 sacks (610 yards lost), seven interceptions, 27 forced fumbles, and four touchdowns (two via interception returns and two by returning recovered fumbles).
Last season was easily his best as a professional with 70 total tackles, 14 sacks, two interceptions, and seven forced fumbles.
The injury likely means that Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw will step into the starting role in place of Suggs. Baltimore drafted him with their first pick of the 2012 draft, the third pick of the second round.
