First it was a haunted house. Then it was an insane asylum. Next came the witches. Now come the freaks.

Series creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed via Twitter that the next installment of American Horror Story will be called "Freak Show." Previously, Murphy had hinted that season four would involve a carnival theme, and his announcement has ended weeks of fan speculation.

The consensus seems to be that Murphy will borrow heavily from Todd Browning's 1932 film, Freaks, which makes sense, given Murphy's habit of stealing ideas from paying homage to classic horror films. And if you're going to borrow from a creepy film, you can't get much creepier than Freaks

No word yet on when the season is set to air, but given the fact that they are just starting pre-production, it's probably a long way off. (Source)
