The statue of Joe Paterno outside Beaver Stadium has become the flashpoint for controversy following the release of The Freeh Report last week. The statue of Paterno leading players out onto the field could serve as a reminder of all the good that he did while he was coaching at Penn State.
The statue could also serve as a reminder of the horrific crimes that happened inside some of the football locker rooms, where former coach Jerry Sandusky was repeatedly sexually abusing young boys, which according to The Freeh Report, was covered up by Paterno and school officials so as not harm the University's image.
Well, some people want the statue to go. Penn State has no plans to take it down as of right now. And today, someone hired a plane to carry a sign over the campus suggesting that the statue will go one way or another. As of now, no group is claiming any ownership of the threat.
