No, you didn't read that wrong. There is, in fact, a new NeoGeo coming our way. MCV has reported the title of the upcoming handheld will be NeoGeo X and that it will release sometime in the second quarter of 2012.
Accessory and retro console specialist Blaze have teamed up with Japan's SNK Playmore and US distributor Tommo to bring the console onto the market.
The NeoGeo console has always been a personal favourite of mine and I am delighted to be involved with the development of this new handheld console. We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt 21 years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience. -Jason Cooper (Blaze)
The system will feature a 3.5" LCD screen, SD card reader, A/V output and internal stereo speakers. It will also, apparently launch will 20 pre-loaded games and, although it is unknown whether more games are being planned for it, the full launch list follows:
The price of the NeoGeo X is still unknown but gamers can rest easy knowing there's a 99% chance that it won't cost $650 like it's predecessor did back in 1990. I mean, it can't...right?
What do you think? Will NeoGeo have any sort of financial success when it arrives later this year or is history bound to repeat itself?
