A Less-Than-Nutritious Retro Throwback for 2013: Campbell’s SpaghettiOs, Mario Style

Back in the Nineties, before MC Hammer went bankrupt ("Y'know what?" quoth MC, "I suppose you cantouch this after all. I just don't give a shit any more") and Justin effin' Bieber was born, you saw these kinds of shenanigans all the time.

Remember the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cereal, which contained little marshmallows shaped like pizza slices? Well, we do, sadly enough, and they were but the tip of an iceberg made solely of craptacular branded foodstuffs. Nintendo lived for this sort of thing, with Mario's magnificent mustache appearing on every kind of edible product you can imagine.

It was the same at the height of Pokémania: Pikachu and co on branded lunch boxes, undercrackers, condoms (nothing heightens the sexy ambiance like a yellow-glowing erection that emits a shrill PIKA-CHUUU! as you get down to business) and all manner of other cash cow-iness besides.

But there was one place the main man's fuzzy face wasn't to be found: on Campbell's SpaghettiOs. A decade or so later, Nintendo have stepped in to right this most egregious of wrongs. Feast your eyes, ears and balls on this meeting of Mario and meatballs, the finest combination since... well, anything could top this. But it's quaintly nostalgic, which is good enough for us.
