Maria Sharapova has finally decided to retire from a very long career of professional tennis.
She made the "not so shocking" announcement in an essay she wrote for Vogue and Vanity Fair. In the essay, she explained that she’s not “quitting” but rather retiring.
Sharapova was born in Nyagan Russia and started playing tennis when she was 4 years old, she moved to Florida, where all the tennis imports go in 1994 and became the world's number one player by 18, apparently the first Russian to do so.
Like all Russian athletes, her career was not without controversy, she was suspended from the game for using contraband enhancement drugs just a few years ago.
She’s had a huge career, we've watched her grunt and moan in her short skirts all these years and enjoyed her game, but it's definitely time to sit back and relax on her pile of money. She's old!
It is still sad to see her go, we've shared some very special moments together over the years. She is not aware of those special times, but that doesn't mean they weren't special.
Here's a bunch of pics we've posted of her over the last 28 years...It has been a good run!
