Star Wars Celebration Chicago wrapped up yesterday and it was a weekend of many reveals, but only one that the fan community has been breathlessly anticipating for months: The first trailer for Episode IX. J.J. Abrams and crew took to the stage on Friday afternoon and unveiled the very first trailer for the final film in the newest trilogy, titled The Rise of Skywalker.
The hours since that time have been spent analyzing and breaking down the trailer in endless detail, but I can't stop watching the damn thing and wondering. Is Kylo Ren doing some sort of training exercise with Rey in the beginning there? Is Palpatine really back, like really really? Is Billy Dee Williams seriously 82? He looks fantastic and believe he took to the stage of SWCC with a pimp cane...
I'd sell my soul to be half this cool at 82.
So yeah, watch the trailer again and rest comfortably in the knowledge that J.J. Abrams is the king of fan service and will deliver a film that will somehow manage to satisfy all of the various factions of fans in the Star Wars universe. He's never had to pay anything off as a director before, he's normally the set-up guy that gets out of dodge before any real answers have to be given. I think he'll have a chip on his shoulder and would love to be the guy that "saves" Star Wars once again.
We'll all find out when Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
