Long ago SI swimsuit model, Cheryl Tiegs, has criticized Sports Illustrated for putting heavy Ashley Graham on the cover of this year's Swimsuit Issue.
"I don't like that we're talking about full-figured women because it's glamorizing them because your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches]. That's what Dr. Oz said, and I'm sticking to it. No, I don't think it's healthy. Her face is beautiful. Beautiful. But I don't think it's healthy in the long run."
You had me until you quoted Dr. Oz. Was the eighteen year old kid in Florida pretending to be a doctor not available for a consult?
Tiegs is saying what all of her peers are thinking: it's supposed to be hard to be a model. You start with starvation and end with a shitload of spin classes. You can be dumb and nasty. But you need to be pretty and skinny. If you thought the average model did nothing, Graham does even less. Graham has stated her goal is to change the lives of millions of young women. Exactly Tiegs' point. Graham being awarded the cover is tacitly condoning unhealthy eating habits. Shut up dudes who love thick chicks. You're all accessories to murder.
