True story - when I told this story of Chrissy Metz regaling spending her youth with an abusive stepfather that hit her and forced her to stand on a scale to a friend yesterday evening, he said in all seriousness and without thinking "She can fit on a scale?" I assume I'll be meeting this friend in hell, where we'll be forced to shit out every herbal tea laxative ever advertised by the Kardashians. In a new interview with People Magazine, the This Is Us star Metz could have stopped after simply revealing that she's from Florida, but instead she continues to talk about a childhood spent having her stepfather punch her and ask her to eat less. Considering Metz admits to sneaking into the kitchen and eating literally everything she possibly could before someone caught her (head here for a visual) he may have frankly just wanted to not starve to death in his own home.

The punching is where things get disconcerting, but Metz had a stepfather in Florida, so what did she expect?:

I don’t remember why Trigger hit me the first time. He never punched my face. Just my body, the thing that offended him so much. He shoved me, slapped me, punched my arm. He would hit me if he thought I looked at him wrong. I remember being on the kitchen floor begging to know what I did.

Jesus fuck. His name is Trigger. Find one Trigger in this world who isn't an abusive father. Go ahead. Just one. Metz states that Trigger was unhappy that his daughter was the shape of a tomato by the age of five, and his frustration seemed to mount after Metz didn't get the hint:

My body seemed to offend him, but he couldn’t help but stare, especially when I was eating. He joked about putting a lock on the refrigerator.

He’d get the scale from the bathroom and clang it hard on the kitchen floor. ‘Well, get on the damn thing!’ Trigger would yell. ‘This is what you need to know.’

If she owns a mirror, I think she gets the memo Trigger. The silver lining here is that when you're as big as Metz being hit probably doesn't really hurt. Is that the takeaway today? Or maybe it's let your kids eat whatever they want and die? Or maybe it's simply don't live in Florida.
